Germany awards 490 MW of solar+storage projects in oversubscribed auction

Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded contracts for 33 bids, totalling a capacity of 490 MW, as part of its innovation auction for renewable projects or renewable+storage projects. In this tender, which was more than four times oversubscribed, the agency received 163 bids for renewable energy projects, with a total bid volume reaching 2,182 MW. All of the successful bids were for combinations of solar installations and storage facilities. The awarded prices ranged from €4.79c/kWh to €5.59c/kWh, and the average volume-weighted award price stood as €5.31c/kWh, which is notably below both the maximum allowed price of €9.00c/kWh and the previous auction’s average of €6.15c/kWh.

Germany aims to reach 115 GW of wind onshore, at least 30 GW of wind offshore, 215 GW of solar, and 8.4 GW of biomass by 2030 and achieve 100% renewable electricity consumption by 2035. In 2024, renewables accounted for nearly 60% of the country’s power mix, with wind and solar representing 43% of total generation.
