The German utility RWE and the Greek company PPC Renewables have announced plans to develop two new solar PV power plants in Greece totalling a capacity of 567 MW. The projects will be developed by their joint venture, Meton Energy. The Kotyli and Neo Syrakio solar power plants will be located in the prefecture of Central Macedonia, in northern Greece.
Start of construction is expected in spring 2025, while commissioning is scheduled for 2027. A total investment of €418m is planned for the projects, out of which €175m will be made available by RRF sources and €169m as commercial debt provided by Greek banks.
As of end-2023, Greece had about 7 GW of installed solar capacity, which generated 18% of its electricity.
