The UK state-owned company Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) has signed 130 contracts for a total of 9.58 GW of renewable capacity, which cover the projects that were successful in the UK’s latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) allocation round 6 (AR6). LCCC said this is the highest number of contracts ever signed in a single round.
The results of the tender were announced in September 2024 with 131 projects selected, totalling 9.65 GW. The UK awarded 5,342 MW of offshore wind capacity (including 1.59 MW under permitted reduction and 400 MW of floating wind), 3,288 MW of solar PV above 5 MW, 990 MW of onshore wind and 28 MW of tidal stream.
The UK awarded significantly more capacity in this CfD round than in the previous. In 2023, the UK awarded only 3.7 GW of renewable capacity, including 1.9 GW of solar capacity and 1.5 GW of onshore wind.
