US announces tighter federal permitting for solar and wind projects

The US Government has announced the review of decisions related to solar and wind energy projects on federal lands to end the previous administration promotion of renewable energy sources. Reviews would apply to rights-of-way, leases, construction and operations plans and other project permitting activities for wind and solar projects.  The move seeks to reverse cuts on fees made by the previous government to promote the development of wind and solar projects on public lands and aims to terminate preferential treatment for wind and solar energy.

The decision comes as the latest blow to renewable energy development since the approval of the One Big Beautiful Bill that accelerated by several years the phase-out of tax credits for wind and solar projects.
