The Spanish renewable energy company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has submitted a 1.8 GW portfolio of fully permitted BESS and solar projects to obtain approval for connection in the United Kingdom through the UK’s Gate 2 Window of the NESO’s Connection Reform Process. The company is seeking to connect its projects before 2030, with proposed commencement dates in 2026 and 2029. The projects include three 400 MW BESS projects (Bicker Fen, Stocking Pelham and Stow Manor), two 200 MW BESS projects (Ansty and Maes Melin), and two hybrid solar+BESS projects of 50 MW/200 MWh (Hollybush and Dunbar). These projects are expected to be connected in 2026 and 2027.
Additionally, Conrad Energy has selected Aurora Utilities (an Independent Distribution Network Operator in the UK) to connect a 1.2 GW solar and BESS portfolio scheduled for delivery in the next three to five years (PV Magazine ESS, 1711/2025).
