Terna secures EPC contract for 125 MW solar PV power plant in Greece

PPC Group’s subsidiary, PPC Renewables, has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with the Greek construction group Terna for the second phase of the 490 MW Megalopoli solar PV project in Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula. The project, being developed in former lignite sites, is being developed in phases, with the first 125 MW phase being already under construction and expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The second phase (125 MW) consists of 215,000 bifacial solar panels on fixed structures to be connected to the Megalopoli Ultra High Voltage Substation via a new high voltage substation at the Neo Choremi site. The facility is planned to have a final third phase of 240 MW, scheduled to start construction works in 2026. Once completed, the Megalopoli facility is expected to generate about 860 GWh/year, enough to power approximately 215,000 households and avoid the emissions of 430 ktCO2/year.

PPC Group plans to develop about 5.6 GW of renewable projects in Greece and the wider region of Southeastern Europe (Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria), with the aim of increasing its installed renewable capacity to 11.8 GW by 2027. As a subsidiary from the Group, PPC Renewables plans to construct a total solar capacity of 540 MW in the Peloponnese region, of which 50 MW are already in operation.

At the end of 2023, Greece had a total installed capacity of about 25 GW, of which 29% corresponded to solar.
