Amazon is reportedly seeking to acquire 2.4 GW Sunstone solar + storage project in the US State of Oregon. Pine Gate Renewables, the developer of the project, filed for bankruptcy in November 2025 and it is currently selling the Sunstone project under a bidding process that was won by Amazon’s Oregon Solar 1 bid of US$83m, which has secured a court approval by the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
The project located in the Morrow County (Oregon, United States) secured its final approval from the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) in December 2024. It comprises 1.2 GW of solar and 1.2 GW of storage capacity.
Pine Gate was founded in 2016; it currently has over 100 solar projects representing a portfolio of nearly 30 GW in addition to its storage assets. However, regulatory and tax credit changes added to rising interest rates have heavily impacted the company, forcing it to sell its assets with its smaller projects going via portfolio.
