According to Italia Solare, Italy’s solar energy association, the country’s cumulative installed solar PV capacity surpassed 37 GW at the end of December 2024, with the addition of 6.8 GW of new solar capacity during the year (+30% compared to 2023). In 2024, the utility-scale segment accelerated, with an increasing share of large plant connections, while the end of the 110% Superbonus and credit transfer led to a decline in domestic plant connections.
The country’s solar installations keep expanding year-on-year, as Italy previously installed 5.23 GW in 2023, 2.48 GW in 2022, and 0.94 GW in 2021. Italy’s 37.08 GW of cumulative installed PV capacity is spread across 1,878,780 installations, according to Italia Solare.
