The European Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) has introduced a new and valuable element of the ecological transition: the energy community or energy community, a reality in which ways is a direct participation and sharing of benefits achievable from local renewable projects.
The initiative aims to study potentials, drivers, barriers, legal aspects and business models related to energy communities. Nine countries are involved – including Italy, thanks to the participation of ENEA and Ecoazioni Snc – each with different levels of experience on the subject. The project will examine the legal, socio-economic, spatial and environmental characteristics, identifying the causes where the development of renewable communities is slower and studying the best practices of the most advanced countries.
