The Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas will supply wind turbines to RWE’s 900 MW Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in Germany. The order includes 60 V236-15.0MW turbines and Vestas will be responsible for the supply, delivery, and commissioning of the turbines. Turbine installation for the Nordseecluster B is expected to start in 2028, with commercial operation planned for the beginning of 2029.
The announcement refers to RWE reaching a final investment decision in May 2024 on the 1.6 GW Nordseecluster complex in the German North Sea. The first stage, the 660 MW Nordseecluster A project, was announced as a firm order in June 2024 and consists of 44 V236-15.0MW turbines; its construction is expected to start in 2025 with full commissioning planned for the beginning of 2027.
At the end of 2023, Germany had a total installed capacity of over 245 GW, of which offshore wind capacity accounted for 8.4 GW.
